The inside story

Islamic design, reflecting marble floors and a towering minaret are what best describe the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.

Built in 1992, by Qaboos bin Said al Said, this architectural masterpiece was built with harmony in mind. Perched in the centre of Oman's capital, the mosque can hold 20,000 worshipers in its 'musalls' - prayer halls.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque's white-washed facades, golden dome and polished floors lined with flower-scented gardens make this an ideal place for you to take a stroll and immerse yourself in the local culture.

Its interior decor is a sight to see. Persian carpets, white-washed columns with stone archways and a wood-carved ceiling with a chandelier at the centre gives visitors a warm welcome. Entering the mosque's prayer halls will leave you with a sense of peace and tranquillity.

Bear in mind that this is a place of worship. Therefore, if you intend to check out the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque you must wear loose clothing, covering your arms and legs. Women and young girls are also required to cover their hair.
