The inside story
Gamla Stan, or Old Town Stockholm, is one of the largest medieval city centers in Europe. It consists of four islands; Stadsholmen being the main island and three smaller islands Riddarholmen, Helgeandsholmen and Strömsborg.
Dating back to the 13th century, Gamla Stan consists of archaic architecture, narrow cobblestone streets and medieval alleyways. The architecture of the city was heavily influenced by Northern Germany.
