Eleni, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Because Corfu was never conquered by the Ottomans and we were ruled by Venice for four centuries, our development was very different to the other Greek islands. In fact, it was the robustness of Venetian fortifications that kept the Ottomans out.'
You'll kick things off by making your way down the narrow, cobbled streets of the capital, passing the ramparts of the old castle as you go – with your knowledgeable guide giving you plenty of insight into some quirky points of interest.
