Um pouco da história
While New Market Square – Nieuwmarkt – might be one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Amsterdam, it’s definitely young at heart offering a collection of lively bars, cafés and restaurants. There’s always something going on at Nieuwmarkt and it’s a must-see on any trip to the city. It’s a 10-minute walk away from Central Station and Dam Square. Locals love this area too and you can join them socialising at one of the terrace restaurants, Irish pubs or salsa dancing nights.
In the middle of the square, you can see the De Waag building – originally a city gate and major entrance point of the city. Today, it’s a great spot to snap some photos and enjoy coffee. Browse the daily markets and snap up some bargains from antiques, and books to organic produce. Art lovers can visit the Rembrandt House Museum and nearby is where you can find Amsterdam Chinatown – one of the oldest Chinese neighbourhoods in Europe.
